New Carer Spotlight
We caught up with two of our new starters, Laura and Sinead, to find out more about life on the patch. Sinead and Laura both came to us with no experience in home care, however, this hasn’t held them back. They’ve both turned into fantastic carers who we’re incredibly proud to have on our team here at Lakeland Care. Read on to find out more about what it’s like to be a new carer…
What inspired you to become a carer?
I have always enjoyed caring for people. I decided that I wanted to help more people if I could and like seeing people improving in their life. Seeing people being able to do what they want with a little help from the carers is the best feeling.
What has been the most rewarding part of working with Lakeland Care?
There has been lots of rewarding parts and I have only been with Lakeland Care for 3 months. Every day is enjoyable but the most rewarding part was seeing a client that I started to have a bond with get out of bed as she hadn’t been able to for the previous 3 months. With help and support she managed it and the smile on the client’s face when she had done it was so lovely that it made me cry with happiness for her.
What advice do you have for potential Lakeland Care employees?
The only thing I can say is if you love caring for people and want to make a difference to people’s lives then it’s the job for you. I have been working for Lakeland Care for 3 months now and I have loved every second. The hours are hard but it’s rewarding to see all those lovely smiles every day.
Do you feel like part of the team here at Lakeland Care?
Yes, I love how even though the majority of the time we work independently I know that if I'm ever stuck or not sure about something there are always people in the office, on call and even other carers who are so helpful even when I feel like a nuisance.
What has been your most memorable moment since joining Lakeland Care?
My most memorable moment was meeting one particular client who is so full of life and amazed me the first time we met. I even wrote about it on the Facebook group as it was really memorable.
