💙 Carer Spotlight: Why Naomi Chose Lakeland Care 💙
At Lakeland Care, we’re lucky to work with carers who bring heart, resilience, and real joy to the people they support. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Naomi, whose passion for care and infectious positivity have already made a big impression on her clients and colleagues alike.
“I’ve honestly never been happier in my work life.”
Naomi joined Lakeland Care after relocating to Ulverston from Manchester. With over a decade of experience in healthcare—including hospital settings, community care, and complex care—Naomi’s career has always been rooted in supporting others.
A Career with Care at the Core
Naomi started her first care job at just 19. She even trained in nursing for two years but stepped away when her son was diagnosed with epilepsy. She later chose to take a longer break to support her son full time. Now that his health has improved, Naomi has returned to care—and she knew instantly that Lakeland was the right place to restart her journey:
“When you’ve worked in care as long as I have, you recognise which companies will fit you best. I just knew the moment I walked in for my interview that Lakeland Care was the right choice for me.”
She describes her interview as feeling like a friendly chat, leaving with the sense she’d found the right team and the right values.
A Supportive, Laugh-Filled Team
Home life for Naomi is full of love and activity, with children who have additional needs. She credits Lakeland Care with supporting her every step of the way:
“My manager has always been understanding and accommodating… it never feels like it’s a problem for them to take me off rota when I need to attend appointments. Lakeland has given me my confidence and dignity back.”
She especially values the strong team spirit:
“The best thing about being part of the team is the support you give each other. And the laughter! Every shift has lots of laughter!”
Little Things That Make a Big Difference
Naomi finds the most rewarding moments are when a client places their trust in her—especially if they’ve previously been hesitant. One such moment that touched her deeply involved a client with temporary hearing loss:
“I wrote ‘Goodnight and God bless’ on a whiteboard before I left. They grinned ear to ear and blew me a kiss. It was the smallest gesture, but it clearly meant a lot.”
It’s this attention to small but meaningful acts that sets Naomi apart. Whether it’s bringing a special tool from home to clean a dusty vacuum or going the extra mile to build trust, Naomi’s kindness shines through.
Why Care Matters
For Naomi, this job is more than a profession—it’s personal and powerful:
“The clients we see day in, day out are so strong and kind despite the daily struggles they face. They really make the job worthwhile.”
She sums up her role in three words: amazing, rewarding, inspiring.
Life Outside of Work
When she’s not supporting clients, Naomi loves spending time with her family. She travels to Manchester on weekends off to visit her parents and father-in-law, enjoys countryside walks with her husband, and winds down with a bit of cooking or a good true crime documentary.
