Lakeland Care on BBC Radio Cumbria: Award-Winning Home Care in Ulverston, Barrow & Millom
Lakeland Care is celebrating a fantastic week after two of our incredible team members — Ashleigh Harvey and Joy Turnbull — were featured on BBC Radio Cumbria following their success at the National Care Awards. Their interviews highlighted not only their personal achievements, but also the passion, dedication and community spirit that set Lakeland Care apart as the leading home-care provider across Ulverston, Barrow-in-Furness and Millom.
National Recognition for Ashleigh & Joy
We are thrilled to announce:
- Ashleigh Harvey – Winner, Domiciliary Carer of the Year (National Care Awards)
- Joy Turnbull – Finalist, Sara Berrio Award for Outstanding Contribution
These honours reflect the standard of care delivered every day by our whole team. They also spotlight what families across Furness and South Cumbria already know:
Lakeland Care is home to some of the best carers in the country.
“I Accept This Award on Behalf of Every Domiciliary Carer in the Country”
During her BBC Radio Cumbria interview, Ashleigh shared what winning means to her, and to Lakeland Care:
“For Lakeland Care, it means the world to us. I’m so proud of myself and my team.
I accept this award on behalf of every domiciliary carer in the country because I know
what they do and how amazing they are.”
Ashleigh’s compassion, professionalism and leadership have made her an outstanding representative for our team — and for the entire home-care sector in Ulverston, Barrow and Millom. Her words resonated with listeners across Cumbria, shining a light on the essential role that carers play in helping people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
Joy’s Journey: From Girls’ Football to National Recognition
Joy also shared part of her story on air — a story rooted in commitment, community and stepping up when others need it most. She spoke about how she became involved in girls’ football coaching:
“I was a coach about 10 years ago… and when my daughter finished playing in junior
football, that was my coaching done. Then about a year and a half ago, my friend told me
their girls’ team was going to fold. They’d tried everything. It didn’t sit right that
these girls wouldn’t be able to play — so I took it on.”
That instinct — to protect, to support, to champion others — is exactly what makes Joy such an exceptional member of our team and a deserving finalist for the Sara Berrio Award, recognising outstanding contribution to care.
Her leadership and compassion enrich not just our clients, but our staff, our culture, and the communities we serve across Ulverston, Barrow and Millom.
