A HUGE Thank You to Our Amazing Team: Going Above and Beyond in Challenging Conditions

A HUGE Thank You to Our Amazing Team

Over the last few weeks, the weather has thrown some serious challenges our way. With 70mph winds sweeping across the county, power outages became a real issue for many. But, as always, our incredible team at Lakeland Care rose to the occasion, showing just what it means to go above and beyond.

During a scheduled teatime visit, one of our Supervisors arrived to find a client in a difficult situation. With no electricity for over 24 hours, there was no heating, no lights, and no way to prepare a hot meal or drink. Our Supervisor found the client shivering, bundled up in a winter jacket, hat, and gloves, and warming their hands over a candle. It was a dire situation for an elderly and vulnerable person, and one that required quick action.

But this is where the true spirit of Lakeland Care shines. Thanks to the incredible team effort, Duddon Mews Extra Care Housing stepped in to provide a warm, nourishing meal for our client. Meanwhile, our dedicated Millom carers donated hot water bottles, flasks, and blankets to ensure the client was as comfortable as possible in such tough conditions.

When our Supervisor returned to check in, the client’s face lit up with joy as she tucked into her delicious meal. And though we didn’t get a photo (she told us to ‘bugger off’ 😂), the smile was worth a thousand words.

We are beyond proud of how our team came together in these challenging circumstances. It wasn’t just about looking after our clients; it was also about looking out for one another. In times like this, our carers stepped up for their colleagues, making sure everyone could get the job done and that no one was left without support. This is exactly what Lakeland Care is all about: a team that truly lifts each other up and goes the extra mile for both clients and colleagues.

We often hear about other local services and their heroic acts during extreme weather – and rightly so. But the care staff who are looking after vulnerable members of your community, often behind the scenes, are the unsung heroes of our times. And you might not even know they’re there, but they’re always working hard to make a real difference.

To everyone involved in supporting our clients and colleagues during this difficult time: we want to say a massive thank you. We truly appreciate you, and we’re proud to have such a dedicated team.
